Born and brought up under the limitations of rural surroundings, Dr.M I Thamban scaled up the heights of technical education putting in relentless effort and effervescent enthusiasm.

He got his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Mar Athanasius College of Engineering under Kerala University in 1967. He specialized in Foundry Engineering and got his P G Degree with distinction from Indian Institute of Science Bangaluru. He got the doctoral degree from IIT Chennai in 1978.

Dr.Thamban always had fascination for promoting technical education and served in MA College of Engineering for 33years, retiring as Professor in 2000.Afterwards, he was the driving force in the grooming up of many engineering colleges in government sector and self financing sector, from their inception period. He served as Principal in engineering colleges under Kannur, Cochin, MG and Kerala Universities.

Dr.Thamabn had served as member of faculty for Engineering in MG University, member of Board of PG Studies in Engineering in CUSAT and was Chairman, Board of B.Tech studies in CUSAT.

He had published several technical papers in national and international journals and authored 3 non technical books. He is a life member of Institution of Engineering (India) as Fellow(F.I.E).
